Zane is a man of art, yet influenced by science and technology. He first completed a Culinary Fine Arts Diploma and a Bachelor of Music in composition in British Columbia. Later on in his life, he shifted to the field of engineering. After, he collected a Ceramic Arts Diploma in Prince Albert. He was apprenticed by Charley Farrero and influenced by Welsh ceramist Walter Keeler.
