"Maija Peeples-Bright paints a fantastic world populated with charming animals she calls "Beasties." Her work is neither naive or primitive, but instead a translation of her passion for decorative techniques, especially in ceramics and stitching, to paint and canvas."

This house was built in 1888 and originally owned by Niels Iverson. In 1965, with the help of her father, Maija and her then-husband David Zack bought the house for $17,000. The house was used as a meeting place for her and her artist friends who were also involved in the California Funk Movement. Being the colorful lady she is, Maija began painting her house all sorts of colors. In 1993 the house was bought by Douglas Bray and John Michaud for $360,000. The two went on to restore the house for 16 years before they put it up for sale in 2009 for $1.6 million. Over the years this house has been called many things, such as the "Rainbow house," "Psychedelic house," and "Iverson house." The house has stood the test of time and it even survived the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 and is a true testament of Maija's creative funk and style.
